Personally, I don’t like the word ‘worry’, however sometimes we have to face some of the hard facts of life and not sweep them under the carpet, which unfortunately we have been pretty good at in Ireland. For me carrying the stone, reminds me to appreciate every single day and the people around me and not take it for granted…. For other people it can be to bring their mind back on track maybe away from a worrying thought, which if left to fester in one’s head can turn to anxiety, anxiety can then lead to illness and on and on until it eats you up..

Recently I was shocked to hear but not surprised that Ireland had the highest amount per capita of population of ‘ lonely people ‘ in Europe. Not a week goes by when we lose some of our young people because they can’t see light at the end of the tunnel….

What can we do to turn the tide ? 

Personally, I believe it’s getting people to talk about what’s going on in their ‘real lives ‘, share it amongst a group, like a classroom, social groups in GAA, Comhaltas, Football Clubs, Yoga Classes, Workplaces etc. In the past , we recommended a small card in your wallet or purse that would remind us of some positive steps we can undertake every day, however cards get lost or worn and eventually we forget, please see the image attached. However a piece of stone is solid and is a sound base to build good habits on…
