The Flowpoint Wet Mix Pointing or Jointing grout from www.wesellstone.com is a proven, quality, grout that we have been using for over 15 years.

Why ?

The main reason is in Ireland we are prone to heavy frosts in the winter time and traditionally pavers would have used a sand and cement mix between pavers, however once we got a heavy frost , followed by a thaw, the sand - cement mix would expand and contract and eventually crumble and break down. The following spring weeds would come through the joints of the paving area and by the summer it’s out of control, you’ve got a jungle 🥲.

Solution :

This is like Fairy Washing Up Liquid advert 😉.
You power wash out the joints , get rid of the crumbled sand - cement remains.
Then you wet the flagstones on the patio.
You mix the flowpoint with a drill head ( the same as used for mixing plaster ) and apply it into the joints using a yard scraper ( tip it out on the flagstones and push it into the joints ). One bag should do approximately 4-5m2 of 20mm deep flagstones, 600mm x 900mm.
If it’s a new patio, the joints should be around 20mm wide x 20mm deep and the 10 bags should cover appropriately 2 crates of paving ( approximately 40m2+ ).

It’s also used on old salvage cobblestone with approximately 1 bag per m2 , the 10 bags should be sufficient for a salvage cobblestone apron between electric gates like on Ailesbury Road, Dublin.
Again the 10 bags should be sufficient to grout , generously 2 to 3 bulk bags of salvage Old Dublin Cobblestone, Old Reclaimed York Cobblestone etc.

We started using over it over 12 years ago as it was widely used on the bustling old cobblestone streets around London , Glasgow etc . It’s even used on our very own ‘ Grafton Street ‘ in Dublin

Tips :

You need to have a reliable, power washer ready to clean off the remaining grout from flagstones after about 10 minutes in the summer or 30 mins in winter.

It’s over 40 newton strength, hence able to withstand oil lorries and heavy equipment travelling over it.
It looks like a historic mortar, with a natural colour, unlike black grey sand & cement mix , easy on the eyes 👀.
It’s got elastic qualities, hence it doesn’t expand and contract like sand and cement and cause the problems outlined..
